Hello, I’m Joanne Ashton.
About Me
I am an HCPC-registered podiatrist with over 30 years’ clinical experience.
I qualified as a podiatrist in 1990 and took a slight detour from an NHS career via West Africa where I worked with very poorly feet. I eventually spent about 10 years working in the NHS. Whilst there, I developed an interest in biomechanics and custom orthoses, and prescribed and made orthoses as part of that clinical practice.
I started Footworks Podiatry in 2002, originally just Footworks. Many of my patients have been part of my working life ever since.
My experience includes orthotic work, children’s foot care, diabetic foot care, ingrowing toenail surgery, verruca treatment, and or course routine podiatry.
More recently, I have developed specialist skills including 3D printed orthoses, Swift microwave treatment (for verrucae), and Clearanail treatment for fungal nails. These treatments require careful assessment, technical skill, and experience to use.
I practise what I preach, usually in my own slightly odd, but foot friendly, shoes.
Basil
You may also meet Basil aka Charlie, the 46-year-old rescue Amazon parrot, who enjoys working with me in the waiting room. He is part of the Footworks character - but please keep your fingers away!
He goes to bed at 5 pm, you will not usually see him after that.
