Verrucae, Warts and Swift Microwave Therapy
Verrucae on feet
Warts on hands
They are caused by the same family of viral infections in the skin.
They are generally harmless, but can be annoying, uncomfortable, persistent, and difficult to get rid of.
Verruca and wart treatments work by creating a small, controlled local injury. The aim is to draw the body’s attention to the area, trigger an immune response, and shorten the life of the infection.
At Footworks, treatment is available for both feet and hands.
Adults 16+
Swift is usually the treatment of choice, though freezing or freeze/chemical mixture can be used
Swift microwave therapy
Swift uses microwave energy to create a localised response in the skin.
Swift is often very effective, but it can be briefly painful during treatment.
A course of three treatments is usually booked, followed by a three-month gap before any further treatment is considered.
Young children
Very young children have incompletely developed immune responses, and tend to both catch verrucae easily and clear them up more quickly than adults. If treatment is used, it is often chemical treatment applied under a plaster.
Older children approx 8–16 years
The immune system is developing and stronger treatments may be needed. Freezing is usually tried first, swift may be offered later on a children’s dose
